As January draws to a close many of us are clinging on to New Year’s resolutions to exercise more this year. However, one man with a firm grip on his training regime is Monaghans’ Project Manager Damian Jones who is preparing to take on the 2017 Marathon des Sables.
Often regarded as the toughest footrace on earth, the legendary event sees participants cover over 250km in six days. Tough enough by itself, before you consider that the event takes place in 50°C temperatures across the Sahara Desert with competitors having to be self-sufficient and carry all their own food and equipment!
Although the race is not until April, Damian is already several months into a gruelling training programme, complete with 4am wake up calls to hit the gym early. Damian is often running in the cold and dark now but he is pushing on with the un-wavering dedication of a man that knows he will soon be in the Sahara with all the heat and sun he can handle!
Damian is also spurred on by the fact that he is running in support of Cancer Research UK, the world's leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. He is determined to give back to the charity that has helped his family and to support a cause that sadly affects so many lives. If you would like to show your support for Damian and contribute to Cancer Research UK’s vital work, please visit Damian’s Just Giving page to make a donation:
