Sunday 2nd July will see 9000 cyclists, including FHP Director Tony Hewitt, set off on the 31st edition of the Maratona dles Dolomites, described by National Geographic as “one of the biggest, most passionate, and most chaotic bike races on Earth”.
The annual Maratona dles Dolomites is a single-day Italian cycle race covering seven spectacular mountain passes in the Dolomites, with this year’s course covering 138km and taking in 4,230m of climbing! The race is open to cyclists at all levels, from Sir Bradley Wiggins (a confirmed competitor this year!), to amateur riders from around the world looking to take on the challenge of cycling a professional level course on closed roads, whilst raising money for charitable causes and hopefully managing to enjoy the spectacular mountain views along the way.
Tony will be riding in support of The Lily Foundation, a charity that aims to give hope, answers and support to children and families facing the debilitating and life limiting challenges of Mitochondrial Disease. If you would like to sponsor Tony for his efforts in the mountains and support the vital work of The Lily Foundation please visit: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Anthony-Hewitt2
