Premier Inn Dundee Centre

Premier Inn Dundee Centre

Premier Inn Dundee Centre has successfully reopened after a 53-week programme of significant extension and refurbishment delivered by Monaghans’ Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers.

Located on the waterfront of the River Tay at Discovery Quay, the newly upgraded hotel is at the heart of Dundee City Waterfront as it undergoes a £1billion transformation with a vision to transform Dundee into a world leading waterfront destination. Nearby attractions already include the award winning Discovery Point, home to RRS Discovery, the Dundee-built ship that took Scott, Wilson and Shackleton on their first voyage to the Antarctic (1901-1904). The increased hotel capacity will also be vital for visitors coming to the spectacular V&A Museum of Design, opening in 2018, presenting the brilliance of Scottish creativity and the best of design from around the world.

The multi-million pound project has increased the capacity of the existing Premier Inn hotel from 40 to 148 beds. The original 2 storey hotel building was retained but was refurbished and re-clad to bring it in line with a new 4 storey extension building built within the original site. The existing restaurant building was demolished and rebuilt to deliver a new 180-cover Beefeater, underneath an additional 3 storeys of accommodation for the hotel. Due to its river side location the project incorporates flood resistant construction to tie in with other flood defence measures being developed to protect the waterfront.

Dundee Centre is just one of many projects under the umbrella of Whitbread’s extension and site optimisation programme, through which Monaghans have delivered over 1500 new Premier Inn rooms over the last two years. This programme continues to deliver a significant proportion of the popular brands target growth as Premier Inn seeks to reach a capacity of 85,000 rooms by 2020. A target which is also being supported by White Design, through their work on new build and treasure hunt programmes.
