Master Cutler’s Challenge at Bramall Lane

Master Cutler’s Challenge at Bramall Lane

The ‘Monaghans All Stars’ have once again raised more than £5,000 for charity after another exciting fixture at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane. This year’s match was part of Monaghans’ participation in the 2018 Master Cutler’s Challenge raising funds for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

On the pitch a back and forth match saw both sides giving a good account of themselves. The Monaghans All Stars had a tough start to the game with early injuries forcing two key players to be substituted before a thunderous long-range strike from LSH All Comers’ George Teeney made it 1-0 to the visitors.

Unphased by the initial setbacks, the All Stars fought back with two well crafted goals finished by Brady Harrison] and Jake Schofield giving them the lead. However, before the half time whistle, another good finish from George Teeney pulled the All Comers level to go into the break at 2-2.

In the second half, the Monaghans All Stars seemed inspired by Monaghans Regional Director Tan Khan’s half time team talk and played some good football. However, despite creating a number of chances, they couldn’t quite find the goal their play deserved. LSH All Comers responded with a few late attacks of their own but were held at bay by a firm defence led by Monaghans Director Simon Turner. So, at the final whistle the game ended in a charitable 2-2 draw.

A penalty shootout saw the All Comers eventually claim victory on the night, but the real winner was Master Cutler Ken Cooke’s chosen charity for 2018 Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, a charity dedicated to offering care and support to children and young adults with life-shortening and life-threatening conditions. All Bluebell Wood’s services are completely free to children and families, but they receive just 10% of their funding from statutory government sources, so we are delighted to support them with a charitable donation.
